Ayu's "Dragonball" Worldwide Theme Song
It has been revealed on the 9th that singer Hamasaki Ayumi (30) is singing the worldwide theme song for "Dragonball Evolution", the Hollywood film based on the popular "Dragonball" manga. The film is set to be released in not less than 60 countries worldwide, making this a full-blown global venture for Ayu.
"Dragonball Evolution" (Directed by James Wong) is the live-action version of multi-million selling manga-ka Akira Toriyama's magnum opus, "Dragonball", a spectacle with production costs of over US$100,000,000.
It has been decided that Ayu's music will paint the screen in every country, for both the release in Japan on March 13th of next year and the later release in 60 countries worldwide.
The start of it was a call from director James Wong, expressing his and distribution company 20th Century Fox's wishes that "The theme song for a hit manga born in Japan should be sung by a Japanese person."
The theme song, "Rule" (to be released next year) is a rock number sung in Japanese despite being a world-wide tie-up. At director Wong's request for "Cool Japanese", Ayu wrote the Japanese lyrics, about her impression of the film's protagonist, after reading the screenplay.
Last year, after her first Asia Tour was a success overseas, Ayu expanded her steady activity to accomodate an overseas outlook. On singing a Hollywood movie theme song for the first time, she says, "This is a manga I used to love, so I'm very honored. I hope for countries all over the world to love the world of Dragonball."
